Pfc. U.S. Marine Corps, {MC2179096}, Vietnam War-Pfc. Laye was killed in action when his Helicopter crashed on 4-25-1968 while serving as an Aircraft Electronic System Technician {6341} with the Marine Observation Squadron {VMO-6} of the Marine Air Group-36, 1st Marine Wing. Pfc. Laye started his tour of Vietnam on December 1, 1967.

Pfc. Laye is the son of the late Mr. Edgar C. Laye, Sr. & Mrs. Fannie L. Laye of 4231 West Monroe Street, Chicago, Illinois, and he leaves one other sister Miss Dorris J. Young of Chicago, and he enlisted with the Marines on 11-1-1965.

Awards: Purple Heart Medal, Air Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with One Service Star, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palm, National Defense Service Medal, Marine Corps Good Conduct Medal.
