Strangely the death certificate indicates that his date of birth was supposedly June 6, 1859. That date doesn't match with the date of birth listed on his 1900 Census of Jan 1861, nor does it match up with the date indicated by his age in the 1870, 1880 and 1910 Census.
A small obituary in the New Castle News mentions his age as 72. The only thing that I can assume is that the Miss Ethel Offutt, listed as the informant was his daughter Ethel and that somehow she got the birthdate wrong. His grave marker shows 1861 as well.
