The family will receive friends from 5:30 p.m. today at Anderson Funeral Home. Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Grays Hill Baptist Church with burial at noon Thursday at Fort Creek Baptist Church in Dearing, Georgia, the site of his first pastorate. Survivors include his wife of 42 years, Jean Spivey of the home in Beaufort, S.C.; a daughter, Amy Spivey of Seattle; his son, the Rev. Eric Spivey of Beaufort; and two grandchildren.

John Cleveland Spivey was my stepbrother. My father, Alonzo Jason Weaver, married John's mother, Betty Lenora "Greenway" Spivey, in 1949, at Thomson, Georgia. They had one son together, Alonzo Jason Weaver, Jr. They were together until my father's death in 1984.
