Businessman. Born in Coclleda, Germany and immigrated to Colorado in 1869 at the age of 17. Launched various buisness enterprises, including the Great Western Sugar Company and Ideal Cement. Endowed the Boettcher Foundation which continues to award funds for various Colorado projects. Several civic buildings in Denver are named for him (Boettcher Hall, Colorado History Museum of Natural History; Boettcher Hall, Denver Performing Arts Center; and, the Boettcher Conservatory, Denver Botanic Gardens). The Boettcher Mansion, located at 8th and Logan was donated by the Boettcher Foundation to the State of Colorado for use as the Governor's Mansion.
