DEATH OF JAMES I. LARIMER.

An Old and Honored Citizen Passes Away, Shortly After Midnight.

In the death of James I[rwin] Larimer, which occurred shortly after midnight at his home on Chestnut street, an old and honored citizen has passed away. Death in his case was due to dropsy. He had been a valetudinarian for a long time and for some weeks was confined to his home. His last hours were peaceful.

Mr. Larimer was 76 years old, was born in Pittsburg, Pa., and had lived in Leavenworth for the past twenty-eight years. He was for some years prominent in local Republican politics and had served in the Kansas legislature. Nearly every person in Leavenworth knew James I. Larimer. He was a man of immense proportions with a strong but kindly face. His disposition was genial and everybody seemed to hold him in esteem. He was a special favorite among children. For many years Mr. Larimer had not been actively engaged in business. He built the block of business houses on Fifth street north of Olive. It is known as the Larimer block.

The wife and six children, all grown, survive him. One of the sons {William}, who was here recently, lives in Iowa. Another son is in business here. One of the daughters is Mrs. E[dward] LeMan] {Nancy} Hunting.

The funeral will occur at 2 o'clock tomorrow afternoon from the late home and will no doubt be attended by a great concourse. The remains will be interred at Mt. Muncie.
