Contrary to the stone placed at the foot of his grave;
This John Daniel Cobb's pension application filed August 1909, in Paxton, Shelby County, Texas states that he served in Co. D, 46th Regiment Georgia Volunteer Infantry, & NEVER transferred from one command to another.
He also states that he was "honorably discharged" because of sickness a few days before the surrender of Johnston at Greensboro, NC.

John D Cobb was born: 16 November 1845 in Georgia, (Chattahoochie County, according to the information he gave in his pension application). He enlisted on March 4, 1862 in Chattahoochie County, Georgia at the young age of 16 years old.

His parents were: William F. Cobb and Kesiah/Keziah Willis Cobb (her name is also found as "Kessay" in some records and ("Kizzy" in others).

After the Civil War, he went to Tennessee with the family of James C Peddy. He married their daughter Martha Jane "Mattie" Peddy.
In 1879 the family's of James C. Peddy and John D. Cobb came by train to Shreveport Louisiana, then went on foot and by wagon to Shelby County, Texas.
