Funeral services for Dale J. Axelsen, 92, a resident of Minneapolis for over 65 years and formerly of Detroit Lakes and Eagle Bend, were held on Tuesday, January 22 at Trinity Lutheran Church of M'haha Falls, in Minneapolis with Pastors Derek Johnson and William Russell officiating. Dale passed away on Saturday, January 12, 2013.
Dale grew up in Eagle Bend and was a Army veteran, serving in WWII. In 1949, he married Florence Carlson. He retired in 1978 after working as a firefighter for the city of Minneapolis for 25 years. Dale and Florence were members at Augustana Lutheran Church and Trinity Lutheran Church of M'haha Falls. Dale was preceded in death by his daughter Cheryl (Michael) Speer; grandchild Michael Speer; and by his sisters Edna Wedemeier and Leona Radueg. He is survived by wife Florence; daughters Joanne Richnow and Judy (Burke) Frasz; grandchildren Christina (Johnny) Whittaker, Nicholas (Adrianne) Speer, Katrina (Jeff) O'Coin, Alexandria and Olivia Speer, Rochelle (Devin) Talberg, Sonia Richnow, Lucas (Lindsey) Frasz and Rebecca Frasz; several great-grandchildren; and many extended family members. Interment was at Ft. Snelling National Cemetery following the service. Memorials may be sent to either Augustana Lutheran Church or Trinity Lutheran Church of M'haha Falls.
