MRS. J. L. STEWART DIES IN THE WEST
Word has been received here of the death at Los Angeles, Calif., of Mrs. Bella Cory Stewart, widow of Joel L. Stewart, one of the early business men of Council Bluffs, Tuesday night.
Mrs. Stewart was one of the founders of the Women's Christian association hospital, which has become the Jennie Edmundson Memorial hospital, and was a lifelong member of the Episcopal church here. For several years she has made her home in Los Angeles.
Her husband, Joel L. Stewart, was one of the founders of Stewart Brothers wholesale grocery which operated at 24 South Main street during the last thirty years of the last century.
Mrs. Stewart was vice president of the Jennie Edmundson hospital during the '90's, serving under Mrs. August Louie, who is still president of the organization.
The Stewart residence in Council Bluffs was located at Story and Fourth streets. Mr. Stewart died prior to 1900 and Mrs. Stewart left Council Bluffs to make her home in Omaha.
Mrs. Stewart was noted as one of the most beautiful women in Council Bluffs.
She is survived by her son, John T. Stewart, II, of Omaha, and her daughter, Mrs. Frederick Reynolds of East Orange, N.J., as well as a number of grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Mrs. J. L. Stewart, 81, died last night in Los Angeles. Her son, J. T. Stewart, 2d, and his son, Gordon Stewart, and Mrs. Isaac Coles, sister of Mrs. A. L. Reed of Omaha, were with her. She has lived in Los Angeles for 10 years. She was a pioneer resident of Council Bluffs.
Other survivors are a daughter, Mrs. F. C. Reynolds of West Orange, N. J., and seven grandchldren, J. T. Stewart, 3d, of Omaha; Mrs. Ira Couch of Chicago, the former Jane Stewart of Omaha, and Luther R., Eleanor, F. C., jr., James and Stewart Reynolds, all of West Orange.
The body will be brought to Council Bluffs for burial.

FUNERALS
Funeral services for Mrs. Bella Cary Stewart, who died in Los Angeles after a general decline in health, will be held Sunday at 1:45 p.m. at a private service in Walnut Hill cemetery. Dean Stephen McGinley, Omaha, will officiate. It is requested that friends do not send flowers. Cutler's funeral home is in charge.
