The tolling of the bell at Upper Northfield Church on Friday, November 2nd., announced the death of another one of our elderly residents, Mrs. Ada Lohnes, widow of Milledge Lohnes, of this place. She was 74 years of age and two months of age and was born at New Cornwall, a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Simeon Veinot. She was in failing health since early spring but her sudden passing was unexpected.
She was a member of Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church, a member of the Lutheran Sewing Circle and a former member of the W.M.S.
Her funeral services were held on Sunday, November 4th., at the church at Upper Northfield and were conducted by her pastor, Rev. Wilfred Myra. The text was taken from St. John, Chapter 4, Verse 6. Hymns sung were "Jesus, Saviour, Pilot Me," "Nearer, My God, to Thee," and "Peace, Perfect Peace." The pall bearers were Foster and Winslow Lohnes, Wilfred Jodrey, and James Penney.
She is survived by one son, Pearlie, of Upper Northfield; four grandchildren; and seven great grandchildren; also one sister, Mrs. Mary MacCarthy, of Cambridge, Mass.; and two brothers, Charles of Upper Northfield and Obediah of Kentville and a number of nieces and nephews. Her husband predeceased her five years ago.
With thanks to Rosemary Rafuse.
