Funeral services were held at Bethel church in Sheldon at 11 a.m. September 5 for Peter J. Westra, 71, retired farmer of Sheldon, who drowned August 31 in the Missouri river below Big Bend dam at Ft. Thompson, S. D.
Services were conducted by the Rev. William B. Miller and burial was in Boyden cemetery.
Mr. Westra was born February 17, 1904, at Hull. He married Susan Oldenkamp July 19, 1927, in Sioux City.
Survivors include the widow; three daughters, Mrs. Howard (Suzanna) Van Kekerix of Sheldon, Mrs. Darrell (Bertha) Dammann of Arpin, Wis., and Mrs. Daryle (Hermina) Hilbrands of George; three sons, Jake of Lakewood, Calif., S-Sgt. Marlowe Westra, serving with the Air Force in Thailand and Ronald of Sioux Falls, S. D.; a brother, Henry of Boyden, a sister, Mrs. Marie Houstma of Hospers; 14 grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
