Mrs. Emma Burford, widow of Joseph Burford, died at her home near New Market on Friday afternoon, following a cerebral hemorrhage. Mrs. Burford had been crippled for some time by a hip fracture but had in a measure recovered from that accident. Funeral service at the home on Saturday afternoon were conducted by Rev. J.O. Carder, pastor of the Waveland ME Church. Burial in Maple Ridge cemetery. Emma Josephine Durham Burford, daughter of John and Sarah Stubbins Durham was born at the Durham home, near Waveland, Montgomery County, May 19, 1855 and spent the greater part of her life in Montgomery and Parke County. She received her eduation and early Christian training at Waveland, being a member of the Methodist Church since girlhood. She was devoted to her family and church, attending both Sunday school and preaching service regularly. She was married to Joseph Burford in 1882, who preceded her in death, having passed away at the same home 13 years ago. To this union was born one son, Clarence V. Burford. The other survivors are two brothers, Wakefield and Harry Durham of near Waveland and numerous nieces and nephews who mourn her loss. Mrs. Burford was very generous and dependable in time of need and her friends and neighbors note her passing with sincerest regrets. A god woman has gone from among us. Mrs. Catherine Friend and Miss Wilda Blanche Wray sang Face to Face and Old Rugged Cross. Pallbearers were Earl Bonwell, Roy Vancleave, Howard Munns, Albert Armantrout, Ernest Young, Frank Vancleave and Alvey Mills. Mrs. May Swindler, Mrs. Ethel Armentrout, Mrs. Earl Brand, Mrs. Ruth Bonwell, Mrs. Laura YOunt, Mrs. Goerge Simmons, Mrs. Hazel MIlls, Mrs. Mary Burgess Mrs Lillian Spangler, Mrs. Catherine Vancleave, Mrs. Guy Durham and Mrs. Clay Rice served as flower bearers. Mr. and Mrs Albert Denk and family and Mrs. Robert Burford were here from Delphi to attend the funeral of Mrs. Emma Burford. Mr. and Mrs. Jesse Burford were here from Terre Haute.
