Longtime College Place resident, Amelia "Amy" Laschkewitsch Aaby, 89, died November 19, 2010, at Angel Wings Care Home in Walla Walla, Washington.

A private memorial service will be held at a later date. Private inurnment will be in Mount Hope Cemetery, College Place. Arrangements have been entrusted to Mountain View-Colonial Dewitt, 1551 Dalles Military Road, Walla Walla, Washington.

One of seventeen children, Amy was born May 16, 1921, in Goodrich, North Dakota, to John and Lydia (Miller) Laschkewitsch. She attended elementary school in Goodrich, graduated from high school in Bismark, North Dakota and received a bachelor's degree from La Sierra College in California.

In 1945, she and Ogden L. Aaby married in College Place. She with her husband served as missionaries in Asia – Japan, Taiwan, the Philippines and Singapore. They moved to this area from Monument Valley, Utah, in 1975, and she was a librarian at Walla Walla Valley Academy, retiring in 1986.

Amy enjoyed reading, gardening, sewing, making many quilts for family and those in need. She was quiet and mild-mannered and loved to share stories, quotes and verses and songs remembered from her school days. She was a member of the Walla Walla University Church.

She is survived by her daughter of Pleasant Hills, Oregon; two sons; three grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, January 2, 2007, seven sisters and nine brothers.
