As a child, Ray used to tap dance at the Fontaine Bleu Hotel in New York. He was spotted by producers and had been considered for the role in "Our Gang" that eventually went to Jackie Cooper.
Ray was an arial photographer in the Navy with a tour of duty during World War II and another tour in Korea.
After Korea, Ray returned to civilian life, living with his family in Van Nuys California. He and his family moved to the Washington, DC area as he became Vice-president of the SDC Corporation.
Upon his retirement, Ray became an electrician and moved to Ft. Myers Florida where he opened his own repair shop, Barrett Electronics.
Ray passed in 1992, with his wife and children by his side. He was given a military burial at sea with full honors off the coast of San Diego.
