Mrs. Williams was raised from a very young age by her mother's elder sister, Mary, and her husband, John Washington in Coatsville, Pa. She met her birth mother when she was about 13 and birth father at age 16. Thurmond funded her education to South Carolina State College and visited her there many times. Additionally, she travelled to his office in Washington, DC several times to visit him.
She stopped attending college to marry Julius Thomas Williams, II, on June 21, 1948 in Henderson County, NC, and they had a family of four children; however, Mr Williams, a lawyer, died in 1964. Thurmond increased his financial support to the family after Mr. Williams' death. Mrs. Williams was a school teacher for 30 years in California.
At the time of her death she was living in Irmo, SC, Lexington County; Preceded in death by her husband; her son, Julius Thomas Williams; half sister, Nancy Moore Thurmond, and half brother, Willie Clark.
She was survived by three children, three half-siblings, grandchildren, and
great-grandchildren.
