Mrs. Anna Wakeman, widow of William Wakeman, died at Madison last evening at 7 o'clock, her demise being due to general debility. Mrs. Wakeman, who was born September 3, 1830, was within a week of her eighty-fourth birthday anniversary. The deceased was born in Allens-Pool, Leicester, England, and came to America with her parents when two years of age. She was married to William Wakeman, at Union Grove, Wis., in 1859. Mr. Wakeman died on October 31, 1898. Mr. and Mrs. Wakeman resided in Oshkosh for many years. Mrs. Wakeman's brother, B. F. Mathews of Chicago, was at her bedside when she passed away. She has two sisters, Mrs. John Gilman and Mrs. Fred Nixon of San Francisco.
Three sons, six daughters, thirty-two grandchildren and twenty-six great grandchildren survive. The sons are Henry Wakeman of Cook, Neb., and Alfred and Charles A. Wakeman of Oshkosh. The daughters are Mrs. J. W. (Jennie) Cook and Mrs. Andrew (Sarah) Cook of Cook, Neb., Mrs. F. A. Durkee of Alexandria, South Dakota, Mrs. C. W. (Florence) Turner of Madison, Mrs. F. L.(Clara) Bell of Menomonie, Wis., and Mrs. L. W.(Esther) Briggs of this city. The remains will be brought to Oshkosh tomorrow afternoon, to the home of Charles A. Wakeman, 64 Mt. Vernon street. Funeral services are to be held there Thursday afternoon at 3 o'clock in private, Rev. W. N. Jamieson officiating. It is requested that friends omit flowers.
