Herman Otlowski, 75; mayor's brother, Dem committeeman

Perth Amboy – Herman Otlowski, brother of the city's mayor, died Tuesday at Roosevelt Hospital. He was 75. He was a lifelong resident of Perth Amboy. Mr. Otlowski was a supervisor for the Middlesex County Road Department for 20 years, retiring in 1977. He was actively involved in local government, serving as Democratic committeeman for the city's 6th Ward, 2nd District, for 30 years. In 1964, he was appointed by Mayor James J. Flynn to the Board of Directors of the Perth Amboy zoning board and the city's Human Relations Commission and served on those bodies until 1979. He was chairman and program director of the George Otlowski Citizens League and was treasurer of the Polish-American Club.
Mr. Otlowski was a communicant of St. Stephen's R.C. Church and coached bowling and basketball for the church's Catholic Youth Organization. His wife, Stephana Bryla Otlowski, died in 1980. Surviving are two sons, Allan of the Iselin section of Woodbridge and Wayne of South Plainfield; three brothers, Mayor George J. Otlowski Sr. of Perth Amboy, Eugene Lenjoski of Perth Amboy, and Edward Lenjoski of Edison; three sisters, Eleanor Bierman, Jean Srinsky and Dorothy Wallis, all of Perth Amboy, and three grandchildren.
Services will be tomorrow at 11 a.m. from Flynn & Son Funeral Home, 424 East Ave., followed by an 11:30 a.m. Mass at Stephen's Church. Burial will be at St. Stephen's Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Roosevelt hospital or the Middlesex County chapter of the American Heart Association.
