Mrs. Gertrude Millay, 77, of 2039 Breckenridge St., died at 1 a.m. today [April 9, 1963] at the Owensboro Daviess County Hospital of a lingering illness. Born in Daviess County, she had lived in Owensboro for 50 years and was a member of St. Stephen's Cathedral Altar Society and the Sacred Heart League. She is survived by her husband, Emmett Millay; seven daughters, Mrs. Woodrow Mattingly, Mrs. William Basham, Mrs. Frances Kelley and Mrs. Carl E. Hamilton, all of Owensboro, Mrs. Robert Purcell, Clarksville, IN, Mrs. Stanley Henderson, Louisville, and Mrs. William Greathouse, Chicago; a son, James C. Millay, Louisville; 41 grandchildren and 48 great-grandchildren; a sister, Miss Rose Aull; and a brother, Ellis Aull, both of Owensboro. The funeral will be held at 8:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Stephen's Cathedral with the Rev. John, Power, assistant pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Mater Dolorosa Cemetery. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers. The body is at the Owensboro Funeral Home where prayers will be said at 7 p.m. Wednesday.
