TUSCALOOSA Anabel McLellan Church, age 94, of Tuscaloosa, died Sept. 29, 2009, at Pine Valley Retirement Community. Services will be 11 a.m. Friday at Forest Lake United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in Tuscaloosa Memorial Park with Heritage Chapel Funeral Home. Visitation will be tonight from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Carlos Reese Church, and her son-in-law, Carlos W. (Sonny) Shows.
Survivors include 2 daughters; 1 sister; 6 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Church was born in Decatur, Illinois on February 17, 1915, the daughter of Guy Chalmers McLellan and Zella Sailors McLellan. When Gulf States Paper Corporation opened in Tuscaloosa, her family relocated from Illinois. After graduating from Holt High School, she married Carlos Church and helped him with Church Plastering Company for many years. She had been a member of Forest Lake United Methodist Church since November 1950 and the Suzanna Wesley Sunday School Class. She was such an example to her family and friends and will be truly missed.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the building fund of Forest Lake United Methodist Church or the Salvation Army.
