He was born in Patrick County, Virginia to John Edgar and Carlene Lawson Collins.
He retired from Tri-City Trucking Company and was of the Baptist faith. He enjoyed gardening and dearly loved his grandkids.
His parents preceded him in death.
Surviving are his wife of 44 years, Virginia Wilson Collins; two children, Billy Ray (Tracy) Collins and Teresa (Andy) Roberts; six grandchildren, Ashley Roberts (Jason), Tyler Collins, Cassidy Collins, Mandy Johnson, Jessica Neugent and Angela Neugent; three step-great grandchildren, Brittany, Brianna and Hannah Johnson; two sisters, Frances (Ralph) Taylor and Amy Collins; two brothers, John (Amanda) Collins and Paul (Angela) Collins; and a special mother-in-law, Lillie Wilson.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m., Wednesday, May 21, 2008, at Burroughs Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Lonnie Sorrell and Pastor Don McGee officiating. Burial will follow in the Wayside Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 tonight, May 20, at the funeral home and other times at the home.
