Grand Island (Nebraska) Daily Independent
Monday, 3 October 1932
Clifford C. Thompson, thirteen year old North Platte boy, shot in the head...early on the morning of last September 6...died at the St. Francis hospital about 6:30 a.m. Sunday. It was the climax to a long and losing battle waged by the boy against odds that were too heavy. He was never conceded a chance to live from the time officials first found him in the store, though at times he rallied... Last week, however, fever again mounted and by Saturday morning, he was past any possible chance of recovery.
Clifford Charles Thompson was born in Grand Island, October 21, 1918. He will be buried in the family plot here Tuesday afternoon, following services in the Presbyterian church. Rev. R. W. Hobbs, of the Baptist church, will officiate. Friends wishing to view the body may do so at the Evans funeral home Tuesday between the hours of 10 a.m. and 12.
The boy's father, Guy C. Thompson, was serving with the American army in France at the time of the boy's birth. The father was killed in an automobile accident in California about three years ago, Mrs. Thompson states.
