Permelia Jane Ward McDonald was born in Clark County Arkansas on January 26, 1850. She was one of seven childen born to Green Berry Ward (a farmer) and Elizabeth Ward. The Ward family moved to Polk County sometime between 1850 and 1860. Here she met and married Oliver Hugh McDonald in Hatfield on September 13, 1877. Her parents owned the farmland adjacent to that of Oliver Hugh, so she did not have to make a major move.
She and Oliver Hugh had two children, Alice Catherine (b. October 30, 1879) and George Wesley (b. November 8, 1882). Both were born in Polk County.
Permelia Jane passed on April 25, 1923 and was laid to rest in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery.
