THE HEART OF A HERO
After his death, Bill's grandmother received a letter from him telling her he had completed his tour in Vietnam. Bill was a Medic, and he told his grandmother that while he was waiting for transport home, he was going back out in the field to help. He said he'd seen too many of his friends dying. This was the Bill I knew - a great guy with a huge heart - the heart of a Hero!! Thank you, Bill, for making the ultimate sacrifice! I'll always treasure my memories of our fun times and our conversations about Jax State! Just wish you could once again play "Stranger on the Shore" for Mom and me!! Love...

Doc Fowler died about 50 feet above where I lay on Hill 110 in Que Son Valley. Charlie Company was pinned down by the fire of an NVA regiment. Most of us lay as flat as possible in the scrub or behind rocks. Doc Fowler exposed himself again and again to care for the wounded and bring water to Marines who were dehydrating under the fierce sun. He went about these chores without regard for his own safety under horrific small arms and mortar fire. He saved lives that day. He was as brave as any human being I have ever known. God Bless You Doc.
