Birth and death dates are confirmed by his birth and death certificates that I have copies.

Enlisted in the US Navy, February 17, 1944; honorably discharged November 9, 1945. He served in Asiatic-Pacific Theater, the European Theater and the American Theater. His service bars indicate two battles in the Asiatic-Pacific and one battle in the American Theater.

He married twice:

Sadie Haworth - could not find a marriage; divorce filed on October 28, 1946, granted December 1946 - no children born of this union.

Thelma Wanetia (Hammond) Grindle, December 30, 1946 in Newport, Vermillion County, Indiana - no children born of this union.

According to his military papers upon his enlistment; he is working in the Finishing Department at the Terre Haute Malleable (Foundry) as a Shot Blast Operator. He states that prior to the Malleable he had worked as a Farm Hand for 3 years, was unemployed for 2 years but had been a Common Laborer and a Section Hand on Railroad at times during the past 10 years.

Clifford is mentioned as a contributor to information and pictures, in the book ALONG THE LINE; written by Red Howell and published in 1976. His father Harve and his brother Allen were both crew foreman in the Maintenance of Way Department for the Terre Haute, Indianapolis & Eastern Traction Company - Interurban Service from Terre Haute to Clinton.
