AN OLD AND RESPECTED LADY HAS PASSED AWAY
MRS. MARCELLA CONFREY DIED LAST EVENING AT 7 O'CLOCK-FUNERAL TOMORROW AFTERNOON

Mrs. Marcella Confrey one of LaSalle's pioneer women, was called to her reward about seven o'clock last evening after a long and eventful career covering a period of 82 years. Mrs. Confrey, in company with her husband, John Confrey, came to LaSalle when the west end was but a wild prairie, and settled here, and she has lived in the old homestead until the day of her death.

Deceased was born in Mount Dillon, County Roscommon, Ireland, in the year 1824, and she spent the early past of her life amidst the scenes of her birth. In 1853 she came to this country , and for six years she made her home in the American metropolis, New York. It was there that she met John Confrey, who afterward became her husband. She was married in that city and her first child, Thomas J. Confrey was born there.

On May 6, 1880, the Confreys family arrived in LaSalle, and commeneed with many others, the building up of the west end. By frugality and industry, they soon acquired property and built a comfortable home. Their life was a simple one, but filled with happiness and contentment, and they lived in the light of each other's love, and the love of their children, who now number five. Several years ago, Mr. Confrey preceded his wife to the grave, leaving her in the care of her sons, who were grown men. Since that time she has worked out her existence alone, living in the hope of one day joining him in the realms beyond.

Mrs. Confrey was nearly known to everyone in this vicinity, and she was beloved by all. She was kind and gracious to everybody and her sweet and amiable temper endeared her to all who came in contact with her. She was especially dear to the children of the neighborhood, and "grandma" Confrey will be missed by her numerous little friends. Her death will be the cause of much regret throughout the community.

Surviving to mourn her loss are five sons, Thomas J., John J., William F. of Chicago, Joseph and Herbert, of this city, all of whom with the exception of Joseph are married.

The funeral will take place tomorrow afternoon at two o'clock from the late residence in West Fourth street to St. Mary's church, Peru, thence to St. Vincent's cemetery.
