During 1828 William Coulter Gilghrist Jr. married Keziah Graham in Venango County, Pennsylvania. They had 10 children they named: Mary A., Eliza J., Kezia, William (the first - a twin brother of Keziah's died at the age of four years), Martha, James, Elizabeth, William, Jemima and Robert B. Gilghrist.

William moved his family to Cherry Township, Butler Co., PA during April 1837 and with his wife and three children, he settled upon the farm (then wild and unimproved) where he lived out his life.

In 1846 he is listed as one of 48 communicats and as a church elder for the United Presbyterian Church in West Sunbury, Butler County, Pennsylvania.

William was both a farmer and Blacksmith. However, in 1855 his friend John Hindman served as the local Assessor for Cherry Twp., Butler Co., PA and William served as the tax collector.

His obit calls out his birth, death and burial dates and confirms his burial on Saturday 7Dec1895 in the local West Sunbury United Presbyterian Church Cemetery.
