Minnie was the next to the youngest of eight children born to Henry Elisha and Elizabeth (Brown) Walling. She was named for her maternal aunt, Minnie Ettie Brown, and her maternal grandmother, Hannah Lytle Brown. She died just ten days after her husband of a massive stroke. Although her life was often a hard one, you could always tell that grandma had been raised to be a lady. She was a wonderful gardener, an accomplished seamstress, a talented musician who played piano by ear and about the best grandma a girl could ever hope for. I have yet to see anything more beautiful on this planet than her acre of naturalized daffodils blooming in the spring!
My adoptive father, Lynn Roy Hollingshead, was her only child. In spite of circumstances that were often quite straitened, she did a wonderful job of raising him. He grew up to be an extraordinarily affectionate and unspoiled man.
