Harold "Guy" Scouten, 75, 143 Davenport St, Spartansburg, died Tuesday, Feb 10, 1998, at his residence. He was born April 12, 1922, in Corry, son of the late Arthur and Hazel Blakeslee Scouten. A 1940 graduate of Spartansburg High School, he enlisted in the US Army Air Forces in 1942. He completed 50 missions as a gunner on B-24 bombers flying from bases in Italy. He received the Distinguished Flying Cross, the Air Medal with three Oak Leaf Clusters, and the Purple Heart. After World War II, he lived in Spartansburg and worked at General Electric in Erie. He later worked for Raymond Manufacturing, retiring from there in 1977. Mr Scouten attended the Christian and Missionary Alliance Church in Spartansburg, was an active member of the Sparta Sportsman Club and was a former member of the Spartansburg Volunteer Fire Department. He enjoyed bowling, hunting and snowmobiling. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Neil and Laurence Scouten. Survivors include his wife, Laura V Webb Lyon Scouten, whom he married in August 1947 in Clarksburg, WV; two daughters; a sister, Ruth Lewin of Sanborn, NY; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
