Married Jewell Jerline Curlee on 6 Feb 1942 in Allen, Pototoc County, Oklahoma by Baptist minister, Rev. John Crabtree, and recorded in Hughes County. His step-father Allen Pace had to give consent, as Ewing Edwards was only 18 years of age.

When he registered for the draft on 29 June 1942, they were living at 420 West Easton, Tulsa, Oklahoma, and he was working for Douglas Aircraft Company at 2000 Memorial Drive in Tulsa.

On 20 Mar 1946, his draft number was called up, and he reported his address as Rt. 1 Box 157, Allen, Oklahoma.

He served as a PFC in the US Army from 30 Mar 1944-12 Mar 1946.
On his return to Oklahoma, they welcomed their first son, Roy.
The young family then moved to Long Beach California, settling at 2485 Pasadena, Long Beach, where they welcomed their second son, Michael. By the time of the 1950 US Census, Ewing and his brother Troy were both working as service station attendants. Their daughter, Suzanne came along in 1955.
