James J. "Jim" Brady

"James 'Jim' Brady, 81, of Connersville, In. went home to be with the Lord on January 18, 2013, surrounded by his loving family. Jim was born December 9, 1931 in Cincinnati, OH to Helen (Corcoran) and John Eugene Brady. He was the youngest of nine children. Jim left Cincinnati for the first time when he joined the Marines in 1952. He served during the Korean War primarily stationed at the Panama Canal. He was honorably discharged in 1955 when he moved to Connersville to work with his sister Martha at Croxon Provisions meat company. Many local and Indiana restaurants knew Jim as the friendly smiling man who delivered meat to their businesses. It was through such a delivery that Jim met the love of his life, ..., at the Bluebird Restaurant in Morristown. Jim and ... were married August 17, 1957. Jim often said that his life truly began when he married ... . Jim spent most of his working life with Croxon meat company. He also worked as the beverage manager at the family business Golden Sands Restaurant in Michigan City, IN. He sold insurance for the Knights of Columbus and worked for Windy Hill Eggs. He spent the last ten years of employment working as an inspector for the state of Indiana, visiting many state hospitals and correctional facilities, bringing his hearty laugh, ever ready smile and joy for life into otherwise sad places. Jim and ... raised their four daughters in Connersville. Jim was an active member of the community and Saint Gabriel Church where he served on the Parish Council and sang with the church choir. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, serving as Grand Knight and was also a charter member of the Singing Knights. Jim's beautiful Irish tenor voice will long be remembered from Midnight Mass at Christmas time and from the numerous weddings and funerals he sang at throughout the years. Jim is survived by a large extended family for whom he was the beloved patriarch including his devoted wife of 55 years ...; his daughters who were the pride of his life ... of Bloomington, ... of California, ... of Connersville, ... of Nashville, TN; sons-in-law .... ; grandchildren ...; great-grandchildren ...; numerous nieces and nephews; and friends who were like family to him, ..., and many others. He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings Eugene, Jack, Charles, Bill, Martha, Helen, Marg, Alice; sons-in-law Keith E. Allen and Fred A. Moff; parents-in-law Ted and Emily Cullin; and grandmother-in-law "Busia" who Jim thanked daily for introducing him to ... . Jim never met a stranger. He was a man rich with friends and family. He was a true George Bailey from the movie "It's a Wonderful Life." He made friends everywhere he went. The memory of his smile and distinctive laugh will remain with all who knew him. Jim was a man of great love especially for the Lord and his family. Jim's last wish was that his extended family members keep in touch, love each other, and have lots of family parties. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Reverend Stanley J. Herber, Reverend Frank Eckstein, Reverend J. Riedman, and Reverend "Jack" Hartzer at 11:00 AM Wednesday January 23, 2013 in Saint Gabriel Catholic Church. Visitation will take place one hour before the service at the church and from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM Tuesday January 22, 2013 at Miller, Moster, Robbins Funeral Home where the Rosary will be recited at 3:30 PM. Friends and family members are encouraged to wear purple, Jim's well known favorite color. If you would like to memorialize Jim through a donation, please donate to your favorite charity, to the Fayette County Humane Society, or St. Gabriel Church.
