Civil War Lieutenant Colonel.Mustered into service with Company F 4th Kentucky Mounted Infantry,the Regiment was organized at Bowling Green, Kentucky, in September, 1861, and became part of the Orphan Brigade .Adair was elected it's Captain, September 13, 1861 at Camp Burnett, Tennessee. Promoted to Major on February 13, 1863, and to Lt. Colonel on February 28,1863. Fought at Shiloh, where he suffered a severe wound in the head on April 6,1862,the unit had 213 men disabled at Shiloh. The wound rendered him unfit for service , although he also fought at Murfreesboro and Jackson. Resigned commission, due to incapacity from wound, 31 August 1863. There's a cenotaph in his memory at Pearl Webb Cemetery, also in Canmer, Kentucky.
