Esquire of Aldwark, Yorkshire. Hereditary patron of Austin Friars, Tickhill, and in right of his wife, of Birkby, Haldenby and Sedbury in Gilling, Yorkshire.

Son and heir to Thomas Clarell and Maud Montgomery, grandson of William Clarell and Elizabeth de Reygate, and Sir Nicholas Montgomery.

Husband of Elizabeth Scrope, daughter and co-heiress of Sir John le Scrope and Elizabeth, daughter of David de Strathbogie, 12th Earl of Atholl. The date of their marriage bond was 08 May 1408.
They had three daughters:
Elizabeth, wife of Richard FitzWilliam
Maud, wife of Sir Ughtred
Alice, a nun and Prioress at Hampole

In 1423 John Anabyll granted Thomas and John Marsburgh his lands and tenements in Yorkshire.

Thomas died shortly before 15 July 1450, when administration of his estate was granted to his mother.
Thomas' widow remarried to John Pillyngton.
