Lee Betts, loving father, father-in-law, grandfather and great grandfather of Texarkana, TX, went to be with his Lord peacefully at home with his family at his side on February 6, 2013. Lee was born February 20, 1931 in Bodcaw, Arkansas, where he spent his earlier years. He later moved to Hooks, TX, and began working at Red River Army Depot. Before his retirement in 1990, he was Chief of Preservation & Packaging in the General Supply Division. Since 1952, Lee was an active and faithful member of St. Luke's United Methodist Church where he and his wife, Joy, were also married in June, 1950. After the church building burned several years later, he proudly served as a member of the building committee. He, along with the other men and women of St. Luke's, physically built the sanctuary that still stands today. He loved his church family and especially enjoyed the monthly meetings of the United Methodist Men's group on Sundays. Lee's loving family and friends were truly blessed to know him so well, they will always remember his smiles and laughs along with his mischievous ways. His winks, grins, great love of life and his endearing personality will be missed by all of us who knew him. He was so very proud of his children, and enjoyed spending any of his time with them. He also enjoyed the company of his good friend, Pat Robertson. The two of them did everything from traveling to just hanging out on his back patio watching the birds and squirrels steal his pecans from the trees. We will truly celebrate his life and all our memories, through our tears. Lee was preceded in death by his son Randall Lee Betts, Texarkana, TX, father Olen Betts of Hope, Arkansas and mother, Murene Betts-Phillips and sisters Marie Betts-O'Keefe-Harris (his twin sister) and Doris Yvonne Phillips-King, all of Camden, Arkansas. Also preceding his death is grandson Christopher Alan Baird of Texarkana, Texas. Lee is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Joy Falgout-Betts, his daughter and son-in-law Patti and Harold Baird of Texarkana, TX, and their granddaughter Kennedi Baird; son Keith Betts of East Moline, II; grandson Alex Betts and partner Amanda Vandewalle and her son Coltyn of Davenport, IA; granddaughter Joni Betts-Tuttle and her husband Tyler, and great-granddaughter Taylor Tuttle of Queen Creek, AZ ; sisters and brother-in-laws Jean Phillips-Stinnett, and husband Johnson and Jeanette Phillips-Jackson and husband Travis, all from Camden AR; cousins Hugh Dean Babb and husband, Mike, and Ann Smith of Hooks, TX; plus a number of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends. Visitation will be at Texarkana Funeral Home on Texas Boulevard from 6:00-7:30pm on Friday, February 8. Funeral services will be held at St. Luke's United Methodist Church, 3501 Main Street, Texarkana, at 1:00pm on Saturday, February 9. Memorials may be made to St. Luke's United Methodist Church at 3500 Main St., Texarkana, TX 75503, or a charity of your choice.
