John Mastison Taylor died Tuesday at 11:40, May 11, 1906, at the residence of his daughter-in-law, Mrs. J. M. Stafford, 1106 West Euclid Avenue. The funeral will take place today at 11 o'clock from the place of his death, in charge of Rev. John D. Knox and Gage Post G.A.R., of which he was a member, and his body will be shipped to Courtland, Kansas, for burial.
Mr. Taylor was born Montgomery county, Kentucky. Dec. 21, 1821. His parents emigrated to Sangamon county, Illinois in 1829. He was married to Ella Knotts on May 2, 1842. Mr. Taylor was a soldier in the late rebellion in Company E, 122d Illinois Volunteer Infantry. He was a member of the Masonic fraternity for over half a century and died a member of Gage post of G.A.R. For over fifty years he counted himself a worshiper of his God in the Christian church. He led a pure and exemplary life. He was a large, noble looking man and his conduct corresponded to his manly looks. One who knew him well said, "I never knew him to say or do anything of which I would be ashamed".
John M. Taylor leaves behind him five living children, Dr. W. T. Taylor, Matthew T. Taylor, Mrs. Edwin C. Stafford of this city, Mrs. Sarah M. Millen of Oberlin, KS and Mrs. Dela D. Trussler of Strong City, Kansas.

Taylor Macoupin County Illinois Date of rank or enlistment was August 15, 1862 and the Date of Muster was September 4, 1862 Discharged July 2, 1863 Due to a Disability ( I heard he lost the front of his right foot and in pictures it looks like there is a bend in the shoe, so it could be true although his pension papers don't mention it in them)
