Donald was drafted into the US Army.
When Donald arrived in Vietnam 11 December 1970, he was assigned to C Company, 4th Battalion, 3rd Infantry, 11th Infantry Brigade, Americal Division, USARV. The battalion was participating in Operation Iron Mountain with C Company in a night defensive position in the vicinity of the small village Phu Khuong on the bank of the Song Ve River and 8 kilometers east southeast of the Minh Long Airfield, when at approximately 2130H C Company was attacked by hostile forces using small arms fire and grenades. Donald died as a result of multiple shrapnel wounds to the body from hostile grenades.
Survived by his parents, William John and Louise F Taylor Sr, and his siblings; Robert, David, Mary Jo, Palatine and William John Jr, all of Rural Route #2, Box 203, Chenoa, Illinois.
