Bill H. Simmons Dies in Statesboro

Prominent Farmer, Businessman Succumbs at Home

Statesboro, Ga., Oct. 22 - Bill H. Simmons, 66, one of Bulloch county's largest planters and outstanding businessmen, died at his home here early this morning.

A native of Statesboro he has lived here all his life. He was for a long time connected with the cotton and fertilizer business and at the time of his death operated one of the largest farm acreages in the county. Mr. Simmons has been a familiar figure on "Cotton Row" here for many years.

He is survived by his wife, Sula Brannen Simmons; one daughter, Mrs. Mary Simmons Howard of Statesboro; three sons, Charles A. Simmons, Oscar W. Simmons and Bill H. Simmons, Jr., all of Statesboro; three brothers, Dr. W. E. Simmons of Metter, George W. Simmons and Clyaton C. Simmons of Swainsboro.

Funeral services will be held from the residence Sunday at 3 p.m. with Rev. John S. Lough, pastor of the Statesboro Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be in the East Side Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Lucian Gerrald, G. W. Branson, Robert Bland, B. McDougald, F. Everett Williams and Cecil Anderson.
