Senator Harold F. “Hal” Huibregtse, 97, of Sheboygan Falls, died Monday, Feb. 21, 2005, at Pine Haven Christian Home.

Harold was born Aug. 20, 1907 in the Town of Lima, the son of the late Albert T. and Dora (Tempas) Huibregtse. He was a 1923 graduate of Wisconsin Memorial Academy in Cedar Grove.

On April 7, 1937, Harold married Rosemary DeGroff in Crown Point, Ind. She preceded him in death on Feb. 4, 1994.

On Sept. 13, 1997, he married Agnes Walfoort in Cedar Grove. She preceded him in death on Sept. 15, 2000. Harold was an investment broker and vice president for H.C. Denison from 1948 until his retirement in 1989.

He was a member of First Reformed Church in Sheboygan Falls. Harold enjoyed coin and stamp collecting and spending time with his hobby farms. Harold served on the Sheboygan Falls School Board, was a member of the Sheboygan Kiwanis Club, a director of Sheboygan Falls Mutual Insurance Co. and served on the Board of Directors of Citizens Bank. Harold is one of the “Founding Fathers” of Pine Haven Christian Home, where he served several terms as president of the board of directors. He was the owner of H.F. Huibregtse Motors, the Ford Garage in Sheboygan Falls from 1940-48.

Harold served in the Wisconsin Assembly from 1955-58 and was a Wisconsin State Senator from 1958 to 1961. He was chairman of the 6th District of Wisconsin Republican Party in 1963.

Survivors include his daughter, SueAnn (Jon) Kennedy of Lake Ellen; one son, John A. (Christine) Huibregtse of Plymouth; four grandchildren, Erik and Dana Huibregtse, Lisa Kennedy, Michael (fiancee Lori Brock) Kennedy; five great-grandchildren, Anthony and Samantha Huibregtse, Kathryn and Hayden McCue and Jon Michael Kennedy; one step-daughter, Lyn (Bruce) Patzer of Oostburg; two step-grandchildren, Daniel (Sarah) Patzer and David (Colleen) Patzer; and three step great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first and second wives and a sister, Elizabeth Hansen.
