James D. "Chowtaw" Hudson, 81, died Wednesday at The Oaks Residential and Rehabilitation Center in Gainesville following a long illness.
A native of Fort Towson, Okla., he had lived in Interlachen for 23 years, coming from Opa-Locka. He was a Methodist and a retired salesman of electronic equipment. He was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Air Force, retiring as a 1st Lieutenant. He was a member of the National Retired Officers Association and the Disabled American Veterans, State of Florida. He was also a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3349 and was post quartermaster from 1971-1972, national aide-de-camp 1973, district commander, VFW 14 from 1974-1975, and a life member of VFW Post 10164. He was also a member of Masonic Lodge-Pineland F&AM 86, American Legion Bert Hodge Post 45 and a lifetime member of the Interlachen CH Club, where he carried the nickname "Chowtaw."
He is survived by his wife, Mary E. Hudson of Interlachen; a daughter, Barbara A. Mullinax of Interlachen; two sons, Bill Hudson of Interlachen and Sonny A. Hudson of Buena Vista, Va.; and four grandchildren.
Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Masters Funeral Home in Interlachen with burial following in Palatka Memorial Gardens. Full military honors will be rendered by the U.S. Air Force. (Palatka Daily News Obituary dtd 16 Oct 1992.)
