John Blessing was a City Police Officer for San Francisco, California. He served 12 years for the Police Force, dying in the line of duty at age 36. Officer Blessing was in pursuit of a narcotics suspect on foot. While chasing the suspect, he was struck by a vehicle. A passing truck struck him from behind as he tried stopping traffic at Army Street and Folsom Street. The narcotics suspect was never apprehended. Officer Blessing had been assigned to the Special Operations Task Force. He was survived by a wife and two children.
