Civil War: Company G, 2nd California Infantry

Charles Hunter Barth was commissioned a 1st Lieutenant at the Presdio of San Francisco and mustered in as Adjutant, Field & Staff, 2nd California Infantry, February 1, 1863. He was promoted to captain March 17, 1865, and transferred to command Company G March 18, 1865. Captain Barth was mustered out with his company at the Presidio of San Francisco May 10, 1866 (Orton, pp. 431, 476). While posted at Fort Miller, Charles married Lizzie Z. Hoxie at her father Clark's residence at Millerton, Fresno County, February 16, 1864 (Mariposa Free Press, February 20, 1864). After the war Charles and Lizzie returned to San Francisco where they remained for several years. They eventually moved to Tulare City, California, where they were still residing when Charles died. After Charle's death Lizzie returned to San Francisco where she filed for a Civil War widow's pension April 23, 1908. Lizzie received application No. 890,175 and certificate No. 676,474. Lizzie moved to Santa Rosa, California, about 1909 and was still living there in 1926.
