Well Known Druggist
Dr. A.V.T. Gilbert, who had made his home in Warren County for fifty-six years, died the night of March 27, 1892, after an illness of less than a week. His home was at 608 South First Street, and for many years he had conducted a drug and grocery store on South Third Street in Commercial Row.
Dr. Gilbert was born in Troy, New York in 1826, and coming to Illinois he lived for some time at Berwick practicing as a physician, then came to Monmouth where he lived for twenty-five years. He was married twice, his second wife being Miss Maria Gaylord of Galesburg, who survived him. They had eight children, three of whom were living at home. He had served as a member of the city council for some time, also held a place on the school board for several years. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church and his Pastor, Dr. A.H. Dean conducted his funeral service.
