He was born Jan. 3, 1910 in Chipman which was in Bethpage, Sumner Co. TN. and died Mar. 26, 1945 at sea, WWII, when the USS Halligan struck a mine. His body was never recovered so he was buried at sea with honors and recieved the purple heart among other awards for his bravery and giving his life for the country. ---Missing in Action or Buried at Sea, Tablets of the Missing at Honolulu Memorial, Honolulu, Hawaii
----The Halligan, veteran of many important operations in the Pacific, lost one-half her crew of 300 in the disaster and only 2 of her 21 officers survived. The abandoned destroyer drifted aground on a small island west of Okinawa the next day. Her name was struck from the Navy List 28 April 1945.
----Halligan received six battle stars for World War II service.
