Viola H. Devine of Hampshire

A Mass of Christian Burial for Viola H. Devine, 88, formerly of Genoa, will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday, at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, 297 E. Jefferson St., Hampshire. The Rev. Joseph P. Nicolosi will officiate.

Born May 7, 1914, in Burlington, the daughter of Henry and Marie (nee Fohrman) Seyller, she passed away suddenly Thursday, Jan 2, 2003, at Rockford Memorial Hospital in Rockford. Burial will be in the St. Catherine Cemetery, Genoa.

Vi married Charles M. Blank in 1931 and he passed away in 1951. In 1956, she moved to Genoa and married Maurice Devine in 1961. Mrs. Devine had been employed at the J.B. Inneriden Canning Company of Hampshire and at Automatic Electric in Genoa for more than 25 years. She was a member of St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church of Hampshire, a former member of St. Catherine Catholic Church of Genoa, and a member of the VFW Auxiliary in Hampshire. She enjoyed crafts, especially ceramics, and spoiling her family with many remembered gifts and cards.

Surviving are her children, Bev (Melvin) Faber of Hampshire, and Dave (Bonnie) Blank of Monroe Center; stepchildren Ted (Ethel) Devine of Kirkland, John (Carol) Devine of Savanna, Ga., and Ed (Ruth) Devine of Sycamore; brothers Marvin (s/b Marvlyn) (Sally) Seyller and Lloyd (Doris) Seyller, both of Hampshire; sister, Florence Wilkinson of Melbourne, Fla.; 22 grandchildren; and 49 great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands, Charles Blank in 1951 and Maurice Devine in 1994; infant children, Donna and Ronnie Blank; stepson, Dwight Devine in 2000; brothers, Mick and Floyd Seyller; sister, Lorena Reiser; and a grandson, Michael Devine.

Visitation will be from 2 to 6 p.m. today, at the Fredrick Funeral Home, 284 Park St., Hampshire, with rosary at 2:15 p.m. In lieu of flowers, Masses or memorials in her name to St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church of Hampshire or St. Catherine Catholic Church of Genoa, would be appreciated.
