OLMSTEAD
In this city, Sunday, the 20th inst., at the residence of her son James, Hester J. Olmstead, aged 85 years. The deceased suffered a paralytic stroke eight years ago and was ever after confined to her bed. She had lived in Monroe 13 years. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. R. D. Brooke at Trinity Episcopal church Tuesday afternoon.

To find Hester's grave: Come inside the gate, turn left at the top of the small hill (the only hill in Monroe); park and walk down the right side of the hill. She is located about half way down the hill in the 4th row of headstones. Others buried near her are Mini Mohr and Robert McBride.

Some records show that she died on her birthday, but the stone shows one month after.

NOTE: The family name is frequenty spelled Olmstead, rather than Olmsted, and the name on the tombstone is Olmstead. On her daughter Mary Jane Olmstead King's marriage certificate to Jesse Turner Hanks in 1869 (See NY City Archives), her name was recorded as Janett and her husband's as Montgy Olmstead.

Two of her grandparents were Sgt. Eldad Mix and his wife, Lydia Beach. Her great grandmother was Sibil Holt Mix.
