From the LaRue Herald News, Jun 1, 1978:
The Hodgenville High School Class of 1918 celebrated the 50th anniversary of its graduation at Lincoln Farm and was entertained at the home4 of one of its members, Mrs. Forrest Durham (Mattie Ree Patterson). There were only four graduates in 1918, all still living in 1968. Besides Mrs. Durham, those present were Mrs. Sallie Pearman McSwain of Dayton, Ohio, and Mr. Ashley J. Nicholas of Arlington, Virginia. Mr. Thurman Gaddie was unable to attend.

From the LaRue Herald News, May 24, 1962:
Mrs. Forrest Durham, of near Lincoln Farm, a third grade teacher at Buffalo Elementary School is retiring at the end of this school year after teaching for 38 years. She is the former Miss Mattie Ree Patterson, daughter of the late Charles and Ollie Patterson, of this city. 37 years of her teaching career have been spent in LaRue County, and one year in Hardin County. She entered the teaching profession in 1918. She has taught the 3rd grade at Buffalo Elementary School for 12 years.
The following poem was composed and written by Mrs. Durham:

A FINISHED TASK
Dear God, you gave me a task to do,
I hope I have done it your way,
I did my best to mold for you
Strong characters and good lives from the day.

It took prayer and courage and patience, too,
Mingled with love and faith that was strong,
But you were always near when I needed you,
You guided and helped me along.

I made many mistakes in the task you gave,
But I sincerely hope you are pleased,
With the way I have tried to mold and make,
And teach them your way to see.

Your wisdom Dear God, I tried always to seek,
For I realized the task was a greatg one,
At times the path became rugged and steep,
But You, I could always depend on.

If I have shown one child the way
To find wisdom and truth and light
I shall be happy at the close of Life's Day,
To rest under the Tree of Life.

My greates wish when I get Home,
Is my Savior first to see,
Then all my loved ones gone on before,
And the school children who are so dear to me.
