Martha M. Stafford was born Nov. 26, 1838, at Clifton Green County, Ohio. Died at her home in Adams, Jan. 30, 1913, aged 74 years, 2 months and 5 days.

She came to Iowa with her parents in the fall of 1855.
She was married to Samuel R. Hughs, Sept. 20, 1860. To this union one child was born, Ida, who died in Infancy.

Her husband dying in 1863, she lived with her parents until the marriage to Elias Adams, who preceded in death 13 years ago.

This union was blessed with five children, Mrs. Hester Ryan, Elias W., Frank A. and Johnnie, who died at the age of 6 yrs., Edward who died in infancy.

She has lived at this place for nearly 46 years. In her earlier days she was always ready to respond to a call In any case of sickness. Rich or poor were all the same to her if she could alleviate their sufferings. She was a good neighbor always ready to help everyone in time of need.
