WORCESTER- Anton O. "Tony" Freeman, 70, of 125 Beaconsfield Road, died Sunday, May 11, 2003, at home after an illness.

He left his wife of 49 years, Ida L. (Ferris) Freeman; eight sons, Mark Freeman of Rutland, Michael Freeman of Charlton, John, David, James, Daniel and Dennis Freeman, all of Worcester, and Stephen Freeman of Shrewsbury; four daughters, Karan Dolan of Worcester, Kathy Valk of Birdsboro, Pa., Susan Tessier of Worcester and Nancy Olson of Shrewsbury; two brothers, Robert O. Freeman of Pleasanton, Calif., and Michael O. Freeman of Branford, Conn.; 30 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. He was born in Worcester, son of Oscar and Helen G. (Cullina) Freeman, and was raised in Bath, Maine. He returned to Worcester in 1960. He graduated from Morse High School in Bath, Portland Junior College in Maine, and Boston University. He served in the Army Reserves.

Mr. Freeman's son Dan is one of my son's best friends. They went to school together and now work together, besides still socializing together. Mr. Freeman and his wife raised a wonderful family and he is greatly missed.

Mr. Freeman was a co-owner and treasurer of Worcester County Refrigeration Inc., where he worked for 32 years, before retiring last year. He was a member of Christ the King Church and the Knights of Columbus Alhambra Council. He was a past treasurer of Jesse Burkett Little League. He enjoyed boating and camping.

The funeral was held Wednesday, May 14, from Athy Memorial Home, 111 Lancaster St., with a Mass at 10 a.m. in Christ the King Church, 1052 Pleasant St. Burial was in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. Calling hours were 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, May 13, in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations were welcomed by VNA Hospice, 120 Thomas St., Worcester, MA 01608.
