LCDR William R. Sechler, Jr., age 74, of Matthews, NC, passed away January 31, 2013.

He was a son of the late William R. Sechler and Helen Dayvault Sechler.

Bill is survived by his wife, Joanna Banks Sechler;
son, Joseph William Sechler (Nancy) their children, Jacob William, Benjamin John and Laurel Michele, of Matthews, NC;
daughter Katherine Virginia Stephenson (Jeremy) their child, Hazel Dayvault, of Charlotte, NC;
brother, Jack Sechler (Pam), of Cornwall, England.

Bill was an avid scouter, earning the rank of Eagle Scout at age 14. He was a 1956 National Merit Scholar graduate of Newton-Conover High School, Newton, NC.
Bill attended NC State before entering the U.S. Navy, and received his Naval wings and commission in 1960. For the next 20 years his majority of assignments were squadrons flying P-2s and P-3s. He also completed two tours aboard the USS Ranger during the 1960s.

Bill retired after his last tour with NORAD in Duluth, MN, in 1979, and moved his family to Florida. A life long believer in continuing education, Bill's BS degree was followed by two Masters, the last from Florida State University.

It was in Tallahassee that he began his second career, working 20 years for the State of Florida's Department of Health and Rehabilitation Services.
Bill enjoyed being a volunteer for Habit for Humanity and other community services during these years.

The family welcomes friends to the memorial service, Saturday, Feb. 9th at 11:00 a.m., at the Sardis Presbyterian Church Chapel, 6100 Sardis Rd., Charlotte, NC.

The McEwen Funeral Home of Charlotte, 5716 Monroe Rd., Charlotte, NC, is assisting the family.

Ashes will be scattered at sea per request.
