On the 3rd inst., a surprise party was given to Grandmother Pyatt, three miles west of Columbus, by her children and neighbors, it being her 71st anniversary.

Mrs. Rachel Piatt, the oldest lady in Bartholomew county, died at 4 o'clock last Monday at the Piatt residence, four miles southwest of this city, aged 97 years this coming March.
Mrs. Piatt was the mother of eight children, two of whom are still alive. She has twenty-two grandchildren, and twenty-one great-grandchildren.
The funeral occurred from the Piatt residence Tuesday afternoon at 3 o'clock, conducted by Rev. M.A. Farr. Interment at Mount Pleasant cemetery.
