Mrs. Emma LaPine, aged 88, died Tuesday night at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Josie Desrochers, in Marlboro, Mass., after an illness of three years. She was the widow of Joseph LaPine, a Civil War veteran who died in 1916. They lived on Everett Lane. She was survived by several other children, Mrs. Lewis A. LaPine, Mrs. Minnie Carroll, David Garten, Frank Garten, and Nellie Garten.
Her first husband was Sabin Garten who died in 1885. Their eight month old daughter, Josephine died in Woodstock, August 12, 1876. According to the Nov. 12, 1892 edition of the Vermont Journal, Joseph C. Enright, Esq., the guardian of Gartin's minor children, was granted a pension on their behalf, of $18 a month, with arreages from December 1890.
