Don R. "Animal" Mathes, 60, of S. 12th Street, Sheboygan, passed away Monday afternoon, February 18, 2013 at his home.
Born July 12, 1952 in Kiel, Don was a son of the Virgil F. Bartel Mathes and the late George A. Mathes. He attended Kiel grade schools and Kiel High School. Don served his country during the Vietnam War in U.S. Army. In 1972, he was united in marriage to Jeanne Bartel. In 1986, he married Cindy Roehl who preceded him in death on February 6, 2011.
Don worked for the Spiller Spring Company as a laborer and later in the shipping department. He attended Bethlehem Lutheran Church and was a member of the V.F.W. Memorial Post 9156.
He is survived by his children, Shawn (Monica) Mathes, Chad (Abby) Mathes and Toni Roehl, all of Sheboygan; five grandchildren, Nakita, Marissa, Alyssa, Brianna and Nathaniel Mathes; a great grandson, Zander Frank; his mother, Virgil Mathes, Kiel; brothers, Jay Mathes, Kiel, Jerome (Peggy) Mathes, Sheboygan Falls, and Gary (Marsha) Mathes, Mound, MN; his sister Tammy Clark; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
A memorial service for Don will take place at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, February 22, 2013 at the Lippert-Olson Funeral Home, 1132 Superior Avenue. The Rev. Alan D. Kubow will officiate. Family and friends are welcome at the funeral home on Friday from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service. Inurnment will take place in Kiel Cemetery.
A memorial fund has been established in his name.
